Florida Collectibles & Vintage Memorabilia Show
was a fun day, with a great turn-out of
enthusiastic buyers, dealers reporting good sales, and lots of media coverage.

Highwaymen Exhibit!
An exhibit and sale by Florida Highwaymen artists James Gibson, Mary Ann Carroll, Robert Lewis Jr.,
Curtis Arnett, Willie Reagan, Roy McLendon, Issac Knight
and Sylvester Wells, with Al Black's work shown by his wife, was held during the April 30th Florida Show, with some of
the artists providing painting demonstrations.
The documentary film "The Highwaymen" was also
shown, exploring through interviews with the artists
the history of these self-taught African-American painters
who traveled Florida's highways selling their beautiful paintings of Florida landscapes. A question and
answer period followed the film.
There were several talks during the day on collecting
and valuing Highwaymen art, and the public
was invited to bring their vintage Florida art
to the show for a free verbal appraisal.
Don't miss the upcoming November 12, 2006 show,
with the Florida Highwaymen artists again participating,
showing and selling their lovely Florida landscape
paintings. Artist profiles will be added soon to to the

Historical Societies!
Several local historical societies exhibited at
the show too, including the Clearwater Historical
Society, Gulf Beaches Historical Society & Museum,
Indian Rocks Historical Museum, and the Largo
Area Historical Society. Each had a fabulous display
and photos from their region, and had their staff
on hand to answer any questions.

Films & Entertainment!
Finally, there was continuous screenings of
1950's Florida tourism films, including Weeki Wachee
mermaids, water skiers at Cypress Gardens,
alligator wrestling at Ross Allen's Alligator Farm,
and much more. There was live entertainment in the
afteroon with jazz and blues by Bill T. & Friends,
as well as a cash bar all day.
